The following is a list of my favorite halloween movies. My criteria for a good halloween movie is a movie has achieved a certain amount of cult status. A movie so bad that it almost good. A movie you can only stand to watch once a year. There are many great scary movies such as Jaws, The Ring, The Shining etc that did not make my list because they are good enough to watch anytime of the year.
- Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988) – The is a Halloween mainstay. It’s just goofy fun with Elvira. The “sequel”, Elvira’s Haunted Hills did not measure up to the first movie.
- The Exorcist – This is almost an exception to the list because it is a great film. However it’s so damn scary, it my opinion one of the alltime scariest of all time that I can only watch it once a year.
- Halloween – One of the alltime classic slasher movies that is a natural for this list.
- Night of the Living Dead – George Ramero’s classic film in which people are being stalked by zombies ravenous for human flesh. Nuff said.
- Dawn of the Dead (2004) – Based on the George Romero 1979 classic follow up to “Night of the Living Dead”. A modern take on a classic.
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966) – The big dufus Linus eagerly awaits the arrival of the Great Pumpkin.
